Eugenio Gay Montalvo, Non-Executive President of GAY-ROSELL & SOLANO, has been working for more than 45 years as a lawyer in civil, commercial, public and constitutional law, with the participation and exercise of positions of responsibility in various organizations both national and international related to the practice of law, some of them promoted by him, highlighting his actions in defense of Human Rights.
He is currently Arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid, and Arbitrator of the Arbitral Tribunal of Barcelona (TAB).
Eugenio Gay Montalvo is currently the President of the Javier HTSI Foundation Board (Ramon Lull University); Patron of the “Banking Foundation la Caixa”; Board of Directors Member at Criteria Caixa, S.A., Patron of the “Foundation of l'Esperança la Caixa", Patron of the “Blanquerna Foundation” (Ramón Llull University) and Defender of the Costumer at Mutua Pelayo de Seguros
He has held, among others, the positions of Dean of the Barcelona Bar Association (1989-1997); President of the Consejo General de la Abogacía Española (General Council of Spanish Lawyers) (1993-2001); Founder and First President of the Federation of Bar Associations of Europe (FBE); Member ex ofico of the Council of State and Magistrate and Vice-President of the Constitutional Court. Futhermore, he has also been President of the Jury of the Association for the Self-Regulation of Publicity.
He is an Academic of the Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Catalonia and the Real Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences. He is also the Director of the “Revista Jurídica de Catalunya” and President of its Editorial Board.
He is also a Member of the “Société Internationale de l'Histoire de la Profession d'Avocat”; Member of the “Société de Législation Comparée”; Member of the Jury and later of drafting of the European Guide for Legal Expertise (EGLE); Member of the Advisory Council of the European School of Humanities; Advisor to the public law Collection of the Editorial Board of the State Official Gazette (BOE); Member of the Editorial Board of the Thomson Reuters-Aranzadi Publishing House and Vice-President of the "Catalonia and Balearic Section of the Légion D'Honneur ".
Previously, Eugenio Gay Montalvo was President of the Council of Iltres. Bar Association of Catalonia; President of the Professional Union; Founder of the Human Rights Institute of Catalonia; First Director, Member and President of the Human Rights Commission of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) and President of the Spanish Delegation to the Council of Bar Associations of the European Community (CCBE).
He has been General Secretary and President of the International Secretariat of Catholic Jurists - "Pax Romana"; Arbitrator of the International Chamber of Commerce of Paris (CCI); President of the Catalan Arbitration Association Arbitration of Barcelona (TAB); Member of the Jury of the “Premio Pelayo para Juristas de Reconocido Prestigio” of Recognized Prestige; Counsellor of the Consell de la Informació de Catalunya (CIC); Vice President of the International Association of (IASL); Member of the Social Council of the University of Barcelona; Councillor of the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of the Generalitat de Catalunya CATS; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Building Board of the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia, and individual Patron of the Ramon Llull University.
He participated as a Member of the Spanish National Committee for the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations
He has participated in international human rights missions, being worth mentioning, among other things, his participation in the Report on the situation of human rights in Chile, on the occasion of the proclamation of the State of Siege of September 7, 1986 and the Report of the International Commission on Judicial Observation in Colombia on the repercussions of drug trafficking, army and police action and human rights violence, reporting on their content to the United Nations Human Rights Assembly United Nations and the French National Assembly.
He has been invited as an expert to different national and international meetings, congresses and colloquia. These included those organized by the Council of Europe in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 40th Anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Coordinator of the group of jurists of Pax Romana at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, which is held annually in Geneva, having been a consultant to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Human Rights during this period.
He was a sponsor and founding member of the Latin American Network of Catholic Jurists, which brought together lawyers working in different Latin American dioceses, such as the Vicariate of Solidarity of Chile and the archbishops of Asunción, Montevideo, Concepción and Lima, among others.
He was a member of the committee responsible for the translation into Catalan of basic texts of the Council of Europe, the European Social Charter and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights, being the first official translation of those texts into Catalan.
Promoter of a series of conferences on "Human Rights, Democracy and Terrorism", convened by the Spanish Lawyers throughout the territory to reflect on two terrorist attacks, by two jurists of renowned prestige, Mr. Fernando Múgica Herzog and D. Francisco Tomas y Valiente.
Promoter of the "Signing of the Declaration of the Professionals of Justice Against Racism" held in Madrid convened by the Spanish Lawyers with the collaboration of the General Council of the Judiciary, the Ombudsman, the Ordre des Avocats à The Cour de Paris ", the" Conférences des Bâtonniers "and the" Center pour l'Egalité des Chances de la lutte contre le racisme "in the framework of the European Year against Racism. Assistance of important personalities from the political and legal world and representatives of Human Rights Institutes. He presided over the event and intervened with the other representatives of the collaborating organizations. This project was selected by the European Commission as one of the 10 best developed within the European Year against Racism.
He has taught courses and conferences mainly related to the profession and law in Universities, and Bar Associations in Spain, Europe, the United States, Latin America, Morocco, Lebanon, Kenya, Turkey, India, the Philippines and United Nations headquarters in New York and Geneva.
He has published in numerous national and international legal journals articles on various aspects also related to law and the profession, and has written several publications.
It has inaugurated in different occasions academic courses, among them the one of the National Academy of Right and Social Sciences of Buenos Aires.
